Laos-China Investment and Trade Promotion Conference was held on September 19th, 2025, at the National Conference Hall of the China-ASEAN Expo. Themed “Investment Opportunities in the Modern Agricultural Sector of the Lao PDR and Investment Potential in Luang Namtha Province”, the event spotlighted Laos’ growing potential in agriculture, infrastructure, and green economic development.
This year’s CAEXPO carries special significance, marking the signing of the Third Amendment to the China-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement and the culmination of the ASEAN Economic Community Vision 2025. Held under the theme “Developing and Strengthening Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation – Harnessing New Opportunities of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement 3.0 to Promote Greater Cooperation between the China-ASEAN Community in the Future”, the Expo served as a platform to deepen regional collaboration in innovation, digital economy, and sustainable development.
The Lao-China Investment and Trade Promotion Conference was jointly organized by the Investment Promotion and Management Committee of Luang Namtha Province, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, and the CAEXPO Secretariat.
The conference was graced by distinguished speakers, including Mr. Bountheung Douangsavanh, Deputy Minister, Vice Chairman, Standing Member of the Investment Promotion and Management Committee; Mr. Onchan Khamphavong, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Deputy Governor of Luang Namtha Province; and Mr. He Xinxing, Vice Chairman of the Political Consultative Conference of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
The event drew over 150 participants from both government and business sectors of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and the People’s Republic of China. Key presentations were delivered by government representatives from sectors such as investment, trade, agriculture, and tourism, showcasing investment opportunities in the Lao PDR’s modern agriculture sector, with a focus on production chains utilizing new technologies and innovations. Special attention was given to Luang Namtha Province’s potential for trade and tourism, with an emphasis on sustainable development in infrastructure, agriculture, industry, tourism, and special economic zones (SEZs).
The conference also featured experience-sharing sessions from successful investors in Laos, including representatives from Asia Potash Fertilizer Company – Lao International Potash, and the developer of the Boten Beautiful Land Special Economic Zone. These exchanges served to foster dialogue, share development visions, and strengthen public-private cooperation between Laos and China.
Specially, two agreements were signed at the event: 1) Agreement on the concession project for the development of Elephant village tourism site in Ban Bo Piat, Luang Namtha District, Luang Namtha Province, and 2) Agreement on the purchase and sale of Chinese agricultural products and medicinal plants, establishment of a processing factory for domestic supply and export, and trade cooperation in the export of medicinal plant products.
This event further deepens bilateral relations and underscores the role of regional platforms like CAEXPO in enhancing investment, trade, and innovation-driven development between ASEAN member states and China.
