On the morning of September 11, 2026, in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Saleumxay Kommasith—Standing Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Investment Promotion and Management Committee—led an official delegation from the Lao PDR to the Laos-Hong Kong Business Forum 2026. The event was held under the theme “Green Growth: Opportunities for Laos-Hong Kong Strategic Cooperation.” This business forum is one of the side events associated with the 11th Belt and Road Summit, held in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China on September 9–10, 2026. This meeting also served as a special event to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Lao PDR and the People’s Republic of China (April 25, 1961 – April 25, 2026) and the 2026 Laos-China Year of Friendship.
The meeting aims to foster networking among the business communities of the Lao PDR, Hong Kong, and neighboring provinces of the People’s Republic of China, thereby strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, banking and financial services, clean energy, and other areas related to socio-economic development. Furthermore, the event aims to disseminate information regarding socio-economic development, trade, and investment—as well as the Lao PDR’s trade and investment promotion policies—to the business community in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. This initiative seeks to foster greater awareness and understanding, thereby attracting increased trade and investment from the region into the Lao PDR, while also facilitating an exchange of experiences regarding clean energy development.
This business meeting marked an inaugural event between the Lao PDR and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China, featuring the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) between the Investment Promotion and Management Committee Office and the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Vientiane Branch. This signing marks a significant milestone in enhancing business, trade, and investment cooperation among the Lao PDR, Hong Kong, and neighboring provinces of the People’s Republic of China. The Lao-Hong Kong Business Forum 2026 was conducted in a constructive and cordial atmosphere, achieving its intended objectives with the participation of representatives from leading companies in Hong Kong, neighboring Chinese provinces, and the Lao PDR, drawing a total of over 120 attendees.
