*HONG KONG* — On September 9, 2026, Mr. Saleumxay Kommasith, Standing Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of Investment Promotion and Management Committee, led a high-level delegation to attend the 11th Belt and Road Summit in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China. Held under the theme “Advancing High Quality Development • Embarking on a New Journey,” the prestigious event was officially opened by John Lee Ka-chiu, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR, and brought together over 6,000 participants and senior leaders from more than 80 countries.
During his opening address, Deputy Prime Minister Saleumxay commended the continued success of the Belt and Road Initiative and praised Hong Kong’s vital role as a “super-connector” and “super value-adder” in fostering regional trade, investment, and international business networks. He placed special emphasis on the remarkable success of the Laos-China Railway since its launch in 2021, noting that the project has successfully transformed Laos from a landlocked nation into a land-linked regional hub, lowered transport costs, boosted cross-border mobility, and significantly contributed to poverty reduction.
Reaffirming Laos’ strong support for the summit’s green innovation focus, the Deputy Prime Minister explained how these goals align with the country’s upcoming National Socio-Economic Development Plan (2026–2030). He outlined the three core pillars guiding Laos’ development strategy: transitioning into a regional logistics hub integrated into global supply chains, driving digital transformation, and securing a smooth and sustainable graduation from Least Developed Country (LDC) status.
The Deputy Prime minister warmly invited international partners and the global business community to explore high-potential investment opportunities in Laos. He highlighted priority sectors such as trade and investment, modern industrialization, digital connectivity, clean and renewable energy, human resource development, and sustainable agriculture.
